Head of Government: Prime Minister Ivo Sanader. Economy: The currency of Croatia is the Kuna. Most recent economic statistics are as follows: GDP: US$43.12 billion; GDP per capita: US$9,800; Annual Growth: 3.7%; Inflation: 6.2%; Major Industries: Steel, cement, chemicals, fertilisers, textiles. Trade: The biggest trading partner of Croatia is Italy: 24% of the Country’s exports are to Italy and 16.8 of Croatia’s imports originate from the same country. Other major trading partners include Germany, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the value of exports being $4.9 Billion and imports $10.7 Billion. The main commodities exported currently are transport equipment, textiles, chemicals, foodstuffs and fuels. Transport Links: Croatia has extensive transport links via rail, road, water and by air. The country is linked by rail to all four adjacent countries: Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia and Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. An extensive highway network also exists, covering a total of 28,009 km. There are 785 km of waterways and multiple ports and harbours including Dubrovnik, Dugi Rat, Omišalj, Ploče, Pula, Rijeka, Šibenik, Split, Zadar and Vukovar (an inland waterway port on the Danube). The country also has 59 airports, 16 of those with paved runways (2002).
